Given the extra width they are ideal for anyone considering living aboard. A standard narrowboat has a beam of 6 feet 10inches. A widebeam can be anywhere above this, typically between 10 and 13 feet. If you are prepared to accept the restrictions that come with a wider boat, namely the limited network of wide canals and rivers, then the extra space is something narrowboaters will envy.</p> <p align="justify">There are also a number of hull styles to choose from. From the standard widebeam 'narrowboat' (basically a similar shape to a narrowboat, only wider!) to the more nautical Dutch barge style hulls. There are also some very nice shaped 'in between' hulls. An advantage in choosing Milburn Boats Ltd. to fit your widebeam boat is that we can use any hull builder to provide the shell, giving you the ultimate choice in having a bespoke widebeam boat built.</p> <p align="justify">If the boat is to be your sole residence, you may even be able to qualify for 0% VAT on your new build. Certain criteria need to be fulfilled, but is definitely worth considering.
