RE: Narrow Boat ' LILY '
We are writing to thank everybody at Milburn Boats following completion of our narrow boat ' LILY '.
We attended the Crick Boat Show on four occasions and visited a number boat builders before carefully
choosing Milburn to build LILY. The beautiful finish, high material specification and detailing
of the finished craft are testimony to the fact that we chose our builder well. This did mean
that we travelled quite some distance from the North of England to view progress during our build but
it was very much worth it.
When making our choice, it was very clear from our discussions with some of the other builders
that they wanted to define and restrict much of the boat specification themselves.
In contrast, all the Milburn team couldn't have been more helpful and supportive in providing technical advice
and expertise throughout the build and thereafter. Milburn gave us exactly the boat design that we wanted and
we wouldn't change anything. The craftmanship of everybody involved in the build was second to none.
We are rightly very proud of ' LILY ' and she receives countless admiring comments from boaters
and walkers whilst we are enjoying our boating life.

...We recently met up with fellow members of the ex-hire-boat boat-share co-operative we were in back in the 90's who had their own boat built over 17 years ago. They came on board and were so complimentary about all the work you had done, especially the beauty of the wood and your skilled fit-out. Also, a young couple and their family on a brief visit who had never been inside a narrowboat, were overwhelmed by it's complexity and comfort!
I just wanted to share with you the pleasure and joy we still experience with the boat and our ongoing admiration and appreciation of all your family's (and Reeves') knowledge, craftsmanship and skill which has gone into the building of this beautiful craft.
We are so thankful to be out and about on it exploring so much of our wonderful country.

A comfortable cruising boat with a superb standard of finish John Milburn’s was one of the first boats we tested in Canal Boat, and at the time he himself had only been in business a couple of years. Now, ten years after he started, he is well established, with over 52 craft to his name, and a reputation to match.
At the time we were impressed with the quality of the boat we looked at - it’s standard of fit-out, and the ideas he was using for the interior layout. In fact we borrowed some of them for our own boat that was being built at the time, and have not regretted it!
