BMF Contract
We appreciate that purchasing your new narrowboat represents a significant investment. In order to make the procedure as painless as possible, being members of the British Marine Federation (BMF), we use their standard contract on all builds. This gives you , the purchaser, ownership of the boat and any materials bought for it up to the value of the stage payments made throughout the build.
Stage Payments
To secure a build slot in our schedule we require a deposit of just £1,000.00. Milburn Boats Ltd can either arrange complete package deals, including shell, engine and fit-out, or you can have us just do the fit-out and arrange the other services yourself. Where Milburn Boats Ltd take care of the complete package, the cost of the hull needs to be paid before it is delivered to our yard. We then take stage payments for the fitting out of the interior, split into payments of approximately 35% / 30% / 30%, and the final 5% on completion.
Certificates
All boats are built to EC Recreational Craft Directives (RCD) standards, and are issued with CE marking, a Declaration of Conformity and Boat Owners Manual . We also issue all new boats with a Boat Safety Certificate issued by an independant examiner (even though these are not required until the boat is 4 years old) for total peace of mind.
Specifications
Before work starts we will produce a CAD drawing showing layout and specification details, along with prices to form the basis of the BMF contract. Within reason, variations in specification can usually be accommodated after work has started, but may involve added costs & time.
Warranty
After a brief trial period and final payment has been made, all work is covered by our warranty period of 12 months. [We will do our best to settle any issues you have with your boat, however, we will expect the boat to be brought to us (or a nearby marina) or a charge for travel expenses could be applied.] Separate warranties apply to purchased appliances where applicable. Any problems that arise after this period we will still do our best to solve as we are keen to maintain the usual good customer relationship we built up during the build. |
